Both of the tests will assess your reading, writing, listening, and speaking, proficiencies in English.

Academic IELTS Test

IELTS Academic assesses students’ ability to communicate in English in an academic setting.

Regardless of your primary subject of study, you can opt to take the academic IELTS exam. You can also take IELTS online test in the Academic exam.

The Academic format is for students who desire to study or train at a university or institution that teaches English at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Many professions in English-speaking countries require an Academic test result for registration and other processes.

General Training IELTS Test

General IELTS emphasizes social and workplace language skills, assessing your ability to communicate in English in a real-world setting.

IELTS lessons for general training are for people traveling to an English-speaking nation for pre-university education, work experience, training, or immigration considerations.

The General Training IELTS test is required for migrants to Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Reading Test

The texts for the reading test are drawn from non-specialist books, journals, newspapers, and online media.

All of the themes are of general relevance to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Answers can be written in various styles, such as narrative, descriptive, or argumentative.

Diagrams, graphs, and drawings may be included in the test. A concise dictionary definition is provided if technical vocabulary is used in the text.

Writing Test (2 Tasks To Complete)

In Task 1, you must use your own words to describe some visual data (a graph, table, chart, or diagram). In around 20 minutes, you must write at least 150 words.

You are given a point of view, an argument, or a problem to debate in Task 2. In around 40 minutes, you must write at least 250 words.

Your answers must be written in whole sentences that are understandable. You should not write your answers in notes or bullet points.

Listening Test

The test is divided into four sections, and a pre-recorded audio is played. Each set contains ten questions for you to listen to and answer.

The questions are arranged in sequence; thus, the first question’s answer will come before the second question’s answer, and so on.

The recordings will only be heard once, so it is advisable to stay attentive at all times.

There are a variety of accents, including British, Australian, New Zealand, and North American, heard in the recording.

Speaking Test

The Speaking test is a one-on-one conversation between the candidate and the examiner.

The examiner, for further assessment, records the speaking exam. The test is divided into three sections; it follows a specific pattern of exercises to assess your speaking abilities in various ways.

The IELTS online test for speaking is done through a video call, while other exams can be done from your own computers.
