Assessment

The IELTS assessment

You will be assessed based on the following elements:

  1. LIstening
  2. Reading
  3. Writing
  4. Speaking

IELTS Syllabus consists of various sections such as Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The test probably lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

  • Listening: The listening session is for 30 minutes, and the candidates have to answer not more than 40 questions.
  • Reading: The total time for this session is for 30 minutes with 40 questions.
  • Writing: Writing section takes 60 minutes, and it also consists of 2 short essay writing questions of at least 250 words. The candidates are also provided with a table, diagram, or data, which they interpret in their terms.
  •  Speaking: This section’s total length is 11 to 14 minutes, and it is a face-to-face interview. It will test your communication skills and comprehensiveness so that you will effectively communicate in the country where you have applied. It is very crucial to be familiar with how the IELTS test works.

Understand the exam scoring system 

The Conducting bodies such as IDP and British Council for IELTS 2020 has not set any minimum Eligibility criteria. IELTS is a language proficiency test conducted for those candidates who wish to study in an English speaking country. It is a requirement that a candidate must have a basic knowledge and understanding of English to pursue their higher studies. However, most of the renowned educational institutes worldwide have set IELTS total score of 7.0 band with section scores of 6.5 band as eligibility for IELTS. 

The requirement varies from a university to another as they set their needs and guidelines for an international student’s admission. All the universities have their own IELTS Eligibility Criteria, which the candidates must fulfill for admission. Candidates must match the other eligibility requirements developed by the university or the educational institute.

IELTS Test Format

The IELTS Exam is conducted in two formats: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training Test. The IELTS Academic is for those candidates who wish to pursue their higher studies abroad. The IELTS General Training Test is for those who want to migrate to the major English speaking countries for their secondary studies or gain work experience. It is also used for migration to countries such as the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

IELTS has become a must requirement for those who wish to study abroad. The tests are administered at centers throughout the world to qualify for IELTS; a candidate must attain 16 years and above. If you meet the minimum age requirement, you can sit for the test irrespective of your nationality or background. There are a few exceptions per the school’s condition, but most schools require 16 years of candidates.

You are eligible for the IELTS exams if you are:

  1. Planning to study in Australia, UK, Canada, New Zealand, or the USA.
  2. Medical professional planning to work abroad.
  3. Planning to emigrate to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.
