What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for The International English Language Test System. This test was developed by the University of Cambridge and is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge Assessment English. The performance of the IELTS test is based on four skills; read, write, speak and listen. IELTS test helps to improve stamina, understand strengths and weaknesses. The number of people appearing for IELTS in Bhutan increases every year. If you want to travel abroad to work or study, you need to prepare for the IELTS.

Test format.

Make yourself familiar with the IELTS format

  • Listening(30 minutes)

The IELTS Listening test takes approximately 30 minutes and you have an additional 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. Listen carefully to the instructions for each section of the exam. Answer all questions. There are 40 questions in total. Each question is worth a point.

  • Reading

Reading is the second part of the IELTS test and takes 60 minutes. It consists of three or sometimes four reading passages of increasing difficulty and there are a total of 40 questions to be answered. 

  • Writing

The IELTS writing test takes 60 minutes. You must complete two writing tasks. Each task requires a different type of text (description, report, discussion, argument, opinion text). Receive tasks based on graphics or visual information.

  • speaking

Speaking IELTS is an informal face-to-face conversation with an IELTS examiner for academic and general preparation. The test is divided into 3 parts to assess your pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary.
