Problems and solutions to IELTS problems

Problem-solution essays are a type of essay question sometimes given to you in the test. In this writing, you need to discuss a particular topic’s issues and then suggest possible solutions to these problems. First thing, make sure you know how to identify one of these questions when asked.

Let me share with you some examples of such questions?

Problem Solution Essay Questions:

  • Overcrowding is a significant problem in urban areas. Identify one or two most serious issues and give the concerned authorities and individuals suggestions to tackle the issues.
  • People have access to the internet, and a large number of children play online games. Can you write down the pros and cons of online games and what can be done to minimize their adverse effects?
  • The internet has revolutionized the communication system, but it also has created a lot of problems. Identify some of the most severe issues and provide relevant solutions?

Some essays ask reasons and solutions, not always problems and solutions. Writing for a cause is entirely different from writing for a problem.

Internet consumption is growing at an alarming rate and has become an essential part of people’s daily lives. This has given rise to some severe problems that never existed before, but there are solutions to address them.

The first problem that needs to be discussed is the impact of the internet on children. Children have access to some of the most dangerous sites, such as pornography, as they can proxy their identity by claiming to be an adult. When children are exposed to such sites, it has a severe negative impact on their mentality. Such children grow up to be sexually driven adults who commit crimes such as rape and murder. Online hacking and fraud are also one of the serious issues associated with the internet. There are many cases about the governments’ confidential websites and companies being hacked, which results in criminals getting access to sensitive information.

It is crucial to address such issues. The government should develop strict policies and laws to prevent young minds from getting access to such potentially dangerous sites. For example, the areas should ask for more details rather than merely confirming if the user is an adult or not. The parents also play a significant role in closely monitoring their children’s behavior and discouraging such dangerous sites. The IT companies should also improve their IT security systems to disallow online frauds and hacks.

To conclude, the internet is one great invention ever achieved by the human-kind that has completely changed people’s way of life and created some of the most severe problems. However, individuals, governments, and companies’ collective efforts can make the internet much safer for people.

Writing Problems

Secret to write a good essay answer in IELTS exam.

Check the problem solution essay by asking yourself some of the questions given below.

  1. How many problems are there?
  2. What are they?
  3. What expressions did you use to introduce the problems?
  4. How are the problems illustrated further?
  5. What results did you develop for each problem?

These questions will help you plan and organize a problem paragraph. Choose 2-3 problems because you do not have plenty of time. Brainstorming the ideas is the most effective way to write a solution essay. Just think about what is the problem, how will you put it into words to explain, what are its impacts, and finally come up with solutions.

For example,

Problem 1: Children get access to dangerous sites

Explain: Porn sites

Outcome: Negative impact on thoughts and development.

Problem 2: Online fraud and hacking

Result: Criminals get access to confidential information

Writing about Solution

There is a solution to every problem.

Answer the following questions about the solutions paragraph:

  1. How many solutions did you give?
  2. What are they?
  3. What three different groups of people do the writer say are responsible for these solutions?
  4. How would the solutions be implemented?
  5. What are three modal verb structures used to make the suggestions?

Thinking of the key actors will also help you brainstorm your solutions. It can be an individual and even the government. Others may also include parents, companies, TV channels, or films.

Reading ProblemsHow do I get a good score on the IELTS Reading Test?

Merely knowing how to read would not suffice to excel in the reading test. You have to understand what the passage is talking about. Finding the right answer is the most challenging part of the test. You need to train yourself to pass the reading problem. You will be judged on how good you are at understanding the written English.

Skimming

Skimming is the perfect way to read, at least during the IELTS Reading. Rather than focusing on every word, just read it smartly by skimming over the text and find the answers.

Time

Time management is the key to a successful IELTS test

Time management is very crucial. You get only an hour with 40 questions. Some questions may not take even half a minute of time but there are few questions on academic reading that require more time. Be smart to manage your time in an efficient way.

Spell Check

The test-takers often give less importance to recheck what they have written. Avoiding spelling errors is very crucial to achieve good scores.

Underlining the text

It is smart to underline the test which you feel is relevant to the given question. It will save time and make it easier for you to locate it after reading.

Unfamiliar Vocabulary

If you come across new words that are difficult to understand, it is better to give more focus on understanding the passage through the given context rather than trying to make something out of those words. You will be wasting your time.

No Blank Boxes Policy

Do not leave out any questions unanswered.

Try answering all the questions, or at least make a guess and fill up the papers. You never know, it may lead you to add scores.

Failed IELTS? What do you do now?

Failed IELTS? Remark or quit

Everyone sits for an exam in the hope to pass. Not everyone passes the IELTS exam, so what do you do when you fail? Well, there are no magic answers that would make everything right, but I present you with a few guides to follow if you have failed the IELTS test.

Give yourself time

One thing that humans find difficult to overcome is a failure. All the efforts and time you spent seems worthless. You are back to where it all began despite giving your best. Pretending to be okay is not a good thing for you, rather do what makes you happy and cheerful. Some people even cry but for me, I prefer talking to close friends when I am upset. Take some time to recover and get back to daily life.

Do not blame yourself for the failure

Yes, you failed, but you are not a failure.

Getting excellent scores in IELTS is difficult, students in most countries manage to score only 6.0-6.25. Don’t feel embarrassed for not being able to pass the test because you gave your best. If you decide to re appear for the test, that means you want improvement in your life. Most people give up after the first try. You are the only person who can change your own life.

Learn from your failure

Why did I fail despite giving my best?

Once you get over the emotional break-down, try to honestly evaluate yourself why you failed IELTS. It can also be because of your English standard. Instead of wasting money on another test right away, find a tutor or an institute where you can study and improve your English. One of the best ways to improve is by keeping a record of the questions you get wrong during the tests. Reflect on it and try to get it right.

Prepare once more and be ready

Book another exam after addressing the problems you had during the previous test. Don’t just do it for the sake of trying. There are many students who fail even after a multiple try because they just want to try their luck. They do not want to correct their mistakes and improve themselves. Learn to focus on your shortcomings and try to improve.

Try again

You can try again or cry again

IELTS is just the same as a driving test. Not everyone gets the license in the first try. Only determined people try again to get the outcome they want, after so many practices and hardwork. If you focus on improving your reading, writing and listening skills then you will achieve good scores in the future tests. If you inculcate these qualities in you then IELTS will become much easier for you in the future.

“If the thought of more study makes you feel sick, just stop. No regrets. No feeling bad. No looking back. Nothing is more important than your mental health.”
